From where I sit

From where I sit – March 30th, 2012

I must say, I find the whole Easter chocolate egg spectacle a bit bewildering… every man and his dog knows that chocolate wreaks havoc on a canine’s fine complexion and delicate constitution.

However, I am partial to the Hot Cross Bun, with a cup of restorative Lady Grey on an Easter weekend afternoon.

With Easter just around the corner, I thought I’d share one of my fondest Easter memories…

I remember well my last visit to Milan. Nose to the ground, I happened upon the most delightful fresco. This strange tile, the finest shade of cornflower blue, cemented into the pavement and showing, it seems, a hot cross bun being picked up by a Milanese baker ready to pop into the oven, a strange Italian practice.

Those Milanese Hot Cross Buns were some of the finest I can recall, you must try one should the opportunity present itself…. On that delicious note, may I wish a Joyeuses Pâques to all my lovely Bouvier friends.

Bouvier has been seen in Marrakesh! This is a shot of Maryam Montague, designer, published writer, humanitarian aid worker and the creator of the inspiring and award winning African Blog of 2012 - My Marrakesh, wearing a whole pile of Bouvier.

Exotic? … Oooooh yes, I think so.

Having graduated from the Bond’s School of Advanced Cuteness, Rafti went on to be crowned Queen of the cruise-liner Fair Star on her voyage to England.

In this Royal Photo she’s being ably assisted by her younger brother, Alexis. Thank goodness her mum was a wizz with crepe paper and sharp scissors.

Dolly | A Tribute to a Fine Friend

This week ends a sad one as the sun sets over the waves at Palm Beach. This week we lost my fine friend and like-minded spirit, Dolly.

Dolly was the exception to the rule, every rule.

Especially my rule about Jack Russell Terriers, around which I normally leave a wide berth when encountering one, unplanned, on the street, in the cafe or at the beach. This is after a particularly nasty run-in with one at the dog park many years ago, although I believe I came off, if not the winner, at least with my dignity still properly intact.

But Dolly was not your typical Jack Russell.

Dolly and I met when her owners, Leah and Tom were walking her at the beach. And so were Rafti, PC and I. She was dashing in and out of the waves, and then performing a full sidewise somersault, to achieve a ‘crumbed Dolly’ effect – something I can’t hope to do with my fine curls.

She was a fun-loving, knockabout ruffian, but Dolly was also cultured and so a natural soulmate for moi in many ways.

Like me, she had a voracious appetite for literature, preferring Italian to French, and a favourite spot overlooking the beach to read, and while away the days in the afternoon sun.

Your place will stay warm in the sunshine; we won’t forget you, Dolly. Details »

 From where I sit - March 16th, 2012

I can see a mysterious woman in the studio. She’s there everyday, she never moves, or speaks but everyday, or most days, she is dressed in something new, something fabulous, something intriguing.

Take today for example. This woman is sporting some Moroccan silk wedding belts … some beautiful wooden beads from Mali … a wrap of antique, red coral beads… various lengths and colours of yarn, leather and silk … the odd postcard … a bag or two … and a mintie wrapper!

But wait … around the top of her neck is the very first brass cuff Rafti and PC beat on a rock in Positano way back when; a little history to boot.

I have TRIED to engage her in conversation, to get to know her better. I’m happy to talk about anything, but she just doesn’t speak. Who IS this mystifying, stylish, headless figure?! Details »

Although Heath would be the last person to call himself a celebrity, any man who wears Bouvier is very special in our eyes.

So, here’s a little gem we uncovered. It’s a shot of Rafti from 1963 as a Bonds Girl. No, not the secret agent, the underwear company!

From where I sit – March 8th, 2012

My name is Bixi and as the third, cherished, member of the Bouvier team (some would say the first member), I’ve been asked to provide some regular insights for the new website. I have sometimes been mistaken for a very well-loved French poodle, but this is a merely an oversight of the narrow-minded.

My plan for the site is this: each week, I’ll post an image or a link to something cool or quirky or to something that’s simply aesthetically appealing to moi that I’ve seen while sitting on one of two comfy lap options in the Bouvier studio …

Or, it might be the word on the street, something I’ve picked up, or overheard. No matter where I am, I like to keep my nose and ears to the ground for the zeitgeist, the breaking trends and the latest ideas. So, in this space, the Bix Domain, you can expect to see perhaps a photo from a stimulating afternoon tea, a snippet from a cool web site I’ve visited or maybe something that caught my eye on SBS television last night. And much more.

And, if you see something you think I’d like, that might work well in this space please do send it to me via the Bouvier team at bixi@bouvier.com.au

A little about me? Being a Parisienne, I’m obviously not only extremely stylish and naturally very attractive, but I’m also quite the intellectual.

So, I thought what better way of introducing myself than a picture of my corner of the Bouvier bookshelves? You can see from my reading list that ‘From where I sit’  is going to be a highly stimulating and much-visited column! Details »
